How Geoffrey Richmond can cheer Jim Jefferies up
GR and JJ had words and, knowing the two personalities involved, this was probably not the first time.
The upshot was the GR asked JJ if he was happy, JJ said he was, GR told him to "Bloody well cheer up then" [Roland is paraphrasing- mw]. JJ has not responded but if he did he might say he had cause to be a bit miserable.
JJ is having to make cuts upon cuts. It's destructive from a coaching point of view and not the sort of thing that a guy who builds team would ever want to do. It might be in the good of the club to do it but it is not nice work. JJ should grimace because he is the one who has to do it.
But if GR really wants JJ to cheer up I suggest he does on of these things:
Cut the cuts
It's not really fair to make JJ pay for the mistakes of Hutch. Ian Nolan cost a bomb to write off but that money should not come out of JJ's budget, it should be counted as an expense of sacking Chris Hutchings. JJ should be told that the club will absorb the losses of the over priced players Hutch brought in and the likes of Matt Clarke who we don't want to allow the boss a budget, still a division one sized one, but one he does not have to pay for other people's mistakes from.
JJ would: be contented
Get the pressies
Next years Division One is like the one we went up from. Its a great chance to get out of the division. The likes of Fulham and Blackburn have already spent there way up. Man City have already started planning a course back to Division Two and Coventry have got to go through a lot of before they have a team up for a scrap. With the current squad and a couple of choice additions, perhaps even a bid for Colin Cameron, then City could have a serious push at automatic promotion cause as it stands no one has a better claim than anyone else for it.
JJ would: able to do the job and get us back.
Give him the cheque book
The guy is a very capable manager. Why not just let him run the club?
JJ would: do a great job/
I'd go for number two.
